Culpeper American falls to Louisa

Louisa stayed undefeated in the District 14 Little League All-Star baseball tournament Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Culpeper American at McIntire Park.

David Laird got the start on the mound Sunday and put in four and two-thirds innings of work. Laird also led Culpeper American (1-1) from the plate going 1-for-2 with the team’s only RBI.

Ray Tricarico and Tim Stephan also recorded base hits for Culpeper American.

Alex Hurley took the mound for Louisa (2-0) and went five and two-thirds innings.

Culpeper American will be in action again Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they take on East Orange in third-round action in Orange. Culpeper National will face Louisa Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Canavan Field.

Gordonsville tops Monticello, 9-8
Gordonsville’s all-star team had to come from behind to top Monticello 9-8 in second-round action Sunday.

Monticello was up 8-5 heading into the sixth inning but Gordonsville third baseman Trey Smith hit a three-run home run to tie the game.

Christian Amos then came up with Gordonsville’s game-winning hit.

Gordonsville will host Central Wednesday at 6 p.m. while Monticello will host McIntire at 6 p.m.
