Winchester third baseman Josh Dick’s second home run led Post 21 to its first of two victories over the Culpeper American Legion Post 330 baseball team Sunday afternoon.
Post 330 welcomed Winchester to Legion Field for a double-header and lost both games despite being in the thick of things heading into the final inning of each contest.
Game 1 was tied heading into the seventh and final inning, but Dick’s home run busted the game wide open and lifted Post 21 to a 10-6 win.
Justin Dodson got the start from the mound and pitched six innings, striking out five and giving up six runs, before Geoff Ward replaced him in the sixth.
Brandon Mack led Post 330 (5-4) from the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Dodson went 2-for-3, and Ward finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Josh Gardiner, Matt Lenox, and Lee Rossi recorded base hits as well and Nolan Jenkins racked up an RBI of his own.
Mack had a huge day from inside the batter’s box during Sunday’s second game, but it wasn’t enough as Winchester scored three runs in the final inning to lock up a 7-6 victory.
Mack went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Rossi finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, Dodson went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Garrett Cole finished 2-for-3. Lenox and Jenkins had base hits as well.
Braxton Decker got the start from the mound in Game 2 and pitched a little over six innings, striking out three and giving up six runs. Cole closed the game giving up one run.
Post 330 will be in action again Thursday when they travel to Fauquier High School at 7 p.m. for a game against Post 72 from Warrenton.
