Culpeper’s American Legion Post 330 baseball team traveled across the mountain for a game against Harrisonburg Post 166 Tuesday evening and made the trek back up Rt. 33 with a 14-9 victory.

After a three-run home run from Nolan Jenkins put Post 330 ahead in the fifth, Culpeper found itself trailing again after Post 166 put together a five-run sixth inning. But a three-RBI double by Brandon Scott paved the way for Post 330 to rack up five runs in the seventh before going on to seal the victory.

Scott led Post 330 from the plate going 2-for-6 with a double and four RBIs, while Courtland’s Matt Lenox went 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs and Culpeper High School graduate Nolan Jenkins finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.

Madison graduate Justin Dodson finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and Josh Gardiner — a rising junior at Eastern View — went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

CCHS graduate Garrett Cole got the start from the mound and went five innings striking out five, walking two and giving up two hits. Braxton Decker came in to pitch the seventh and earn the win, striking out two and giving up three hits.

Post 330 will be in action again Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Remington Post 247 at Legion Field.
