‘Charlie…’ still a good man

For those of us of a certain age, the Peanuts gang was a part of growing up. Charles Schulz struck gold when he developed his distinct child characters who reflected in their own ways the world of adults never seen in the strip.

Body piercings: the safe way

In my travels this summer I have noticed a lot of people with body piercings.

The day after I had the privilege of seeing Bruce Springsteen live in Richmond, the ringing in my ears still had not subsided. But I’m not complaining.

‘Tropic Thunder’ crashes and burns

Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder” features lots of big name actors and a solid soundtrack. But as Forrest Gump would say — that’s all I have to say about that. If only.

Idols show they’ve improved

My husband and I gradually got hooked on “American Idol” this past year and as we watched the eliminations week after week we began to choose our favorites.

High kicks on ‘42nd Street’

It’s just a feeling and America has been through it before. Unemployment, foreclosures, rising prices, stagnant hopes. So how (to re-word King Theseus) shall we beguile uncertain times if not with some delight?

Laser hair reduction becoming more popular

Everyone is trying to hide all that unattractive hair this season from the upper lip to your legs. Shaving can cause razor burn and only lasts a few weeks; waxing for some is painful and can cause redness for a few hours.

A tribute disin‘clined’

First the good news. Wayside Theatre’s yearlong renovation is complete and not only does the new water fountain work and the bathrooms are bigger and roomier, the new seats are a thousand percent improvement. Ultra comfortable. (First row balcony is too close to the railing, but you can’t have everything) Congratulations and welcome back to the new digs.

Why do we eat what we eat?

I often wonder if it is true that we are what we eat. Have you ever wondered why we eat what we do? Many factors influence what we eat: our religion; ethic background; the region we live in; growing season and many more.

‘Mongol’ covers a lot of ground

History says Mongol warrior Genghis Khan conquered more land than anyone else. By the end of his life in 1227, he ruled everything between the Caspian Sea and Beijing.
But Genghis Khan wasn’t always at the top.

Vigorous ‘Invalid’ alive and well

He plays, argues, rages when crossed, and demands incessant attention. This ridiculous little question mark of a man swears he’s dying and hangs upon the advice of his doctors, none of whom would know a trachea from a tractor. He’s “The Imaginary Invalid,” the great Moliere’s last play and the one that Moliere himself, sick with tuberculosis, played for Louis XIV on the fourth night and died just hours after the curtain.

This past year everything I’ve ever thought about old people has been turned on its head.

Is your jewelry a fashion accessory?

For some people jewelry is just something they wear and it doesn’t always have to match their clothes, but others make jewelry a fashion accessory.

Making projections

Most people have a use for watching a screen, whether it’s a computer for e-mail, business applications, or home theater systems. There are so many options as to what type of screen you can use that it’s difficult to make a decision. But today, while including home theater and business applications together, we’re going to talk about projectors.
