The weekend’s free movies at the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater tap into espionage and envy of the precious metal variety.
Friday night at 7:30 it’s drama and intrigue in “Confessions of a Nazi Spy” (Warner Bros., 1939) with Edward G. Robinson. The 70-year-old movie came out at the height of Nazi power in Germany and was reportedly banned in that country as well as Japan — American’s enemies in World War II.
Get in a Western state of mind for the Saturday night screening of “Ride the High Country” (MGM, 1962) about a couple of aging gunslingers who sign on to transport gold through dangerous territory to a remote mining town. A beloved classic, this movie was made back when the good guy still had the last laugh. Selected for the National Film Registry in 1994, “Ride the High Country” is set in the 1900s when times, they are a changing.
Make reservations Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. one week in advance at (540) 827-1079 ext. 79994. All movies show at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The LOC theater in Culpeper is located at 19053 Mount Pony Road, a few miles east of town off of U.S. 522.
Don’t have reservations? Show up early in the theater lobby to get on stand-by. Remaining tickets will distributed 10 minutes prior to show time.
