Before there were Hollywood censors, there was “Baby Face” (Warner Bros., 1933).
This “pre-code” flick starring the sexy Barbara Stanwyck screens for free tonight at 7:30 in the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater on Mount Pony.
One hears it’s quite racy, even for a 76-year-old movie in black and white. “Baby Face” tells the story of a beautiful schemer who sleeps her way, literally, to the top of a banking empire.
She’s a man-eater.
Make your reservations today.
However, Friday night’s movie, “Roman Holiday,” is already fully booked. Take a chance on admission by showing up early to get on standby.
Saturday’s special 2 p.m. matinee in Mount Pony’s 200-seat theater features a selection of short and silent movies including, “The Bargain” (Paramount, 1914), “The Great Train Robbery” (Biograph, 1903) and “Roping a Bride” (Sellig, 1915). Washington-D.C.-based pianist Andrew Simpson will be in the house as well, providing his wonderful live accompaniment.
Free movies on Mount Pony play every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7:30, unless otherwise noted, in the Packard Campus Theater at 19053 Mount Pony Road, Culpeper.
