Trio of classics playing
Oscar-award winning director John Ford (The Quiet Man, The Grapes of Wrath) presents Oscar-award winning actor Henry Fonda (On Golden Pond) in “My Darling Clementine” (1946, 20th Century Fox) screening for free tonight at 7:30 in the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater on Mount Pony.
Black and white 1 hour and 37 minutes.
Take a trip down under with the weekend’s Friday Night Foreign, “Walkabout” (1971, 20th Century Fox), showing Friday night at 7:30. In English with Australian accents, the movie tells the story of two children stranded in the Outback and their cultural meeting with an Aborigine on walkabout, that is, a periodic return to nomadic life, or something.
1 hour and 40 minutes.
Saturday on Mount Pony, “The Music Man” (Warner Bros, 1962) screens at 2 p.m. It’s a classic feel-good musical based on the Broadway show. Its songs are pretty famous: Gary, Indiana and 76 Trombones come to mind.
With Robert Preston, Shirley Jones of Partridge Family fame and Ronny (Ron) Howard, when he was just a wee boy. Yup, he’s the same Ron Howard who played Richie Cunningham on Happy Days a decade later.
2 hours and 31 minutes.
Free movies on Mount Pony play every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7:30, unless otherwise noted, in the Packard Campus Theater at 19053 Mount Pony Rd., Culpeper.
