The Oscar-winning “A Room With a View” (Merchant Ivory, 1995) screens tonight at 7:30 for free in the Packard Campus Theater on Mount Pony.
Helena Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith star in this Edwardian story of love with so many restrictions. Set in Florence before moving to England, “A Room With a View” is based on the novel by E.M. Forster. Daniel Day-Lewis is part of the cast as is Dame Judi Dench. 1 hour 57 minutes.
Saturday night on Mount Pony, it’s Buster Keaton and his Great Stone Face in “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” (Buster Keaton Productions, 1928). The silent comedy was originally scheduled to screen in July, but was canceled due to a wild storm and ensuing power outage.
Rob Stone, curator of the moving images section at the LOC Packard Campus, says many would place Keaton above Charlie Chaplin for comedic genius. Besides being known for his expressionless face, one hears he was also one of the most acrobatic of all the comedy greats.
Movies in the Packard Campus Theater on Mount Pony screen Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
