Battle of the bands postponed

Local musicians did not face off Thursday night in a battle of the bands at the season-ending Third Thursday summer concert series. It got rained out.
Details of a new date for the musical competition are still being worked out, but it’s the concert could be held the third Thursday of October. Missy Vesuna with CRI said the CRI board, in conjunction with the town and the bands, would officially decide on the new date by next week.
“We’d rather have people there to cheer on their favorite bands,“ she said of the decision to postpone Thursday’s five-band competition.
Here’s who’s scheduled to compete:
- 5 p.m. Same Ol’ Sound, local Culpeper residents with a classic and Southern rock style
- 5:45 p.m. The Shields Brothers, a top 40 rock trio from Rixeyville
- 6:30 p.m. Infinite Soul Band, Culpeper-based group playing R&B, go-go and soul
- 7:15 p.m. SP511, a five-piece rock ensemble from Harrisonburg
- 8 p.m. The Usual Suspects, a four-piece rock band from Culpeper and Madison performing classics from the ’60s through today.
Buy advance tickets for $2.50 — in honor of the town’s 250th anniversary — at StellarOne, Pepperberries, the Museum of Culpeper History or the Culpeper Renaissance office on West Davis Street. Tickets are $5 at the gate for those 21 and older; everyone else gets in free.
Kids activities, food and beverages galore. No pets or coolers, but picnic baskets welcome. Lawn chairs encouraged.
