Grey Matter plays Pub Saturday night
A Charlottesville-based band will take the stage at Hazel River Pub on Saturday.
Grey Matter, a rock quintet which formed about two years ago, plans to start the show around 9:30 p.m. The group just played its self-titled CD release show last week.
Keyboardist Nick Mann, bassist Travis Marshall, drummer Mark Wilkinson and guitarists Sid Briggs and Liam Gilchrist make up the group.
The band played a gig in Charlottesville for its self-titled CD release party last week. The guys will have copies of the CD at the Pub this weekend.
“We’re excited to get our music to new people,” Mann said. “Being on stage is pretty exhilarating and it’s fun to work off of the crowd.”
Influenced by diverse musicians such as the Allman Brothers, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Parliament and B.B. King, Grey Matter produces what the band describes as a “refreshingly-authentic” sound.
According to Greymatter-band.com, “They bring audiences what they want to hear: an unprecedented culmination of rock, blues and funk that harkens back to the experimental days of rock and roll.”
Grey Matter has nearly 60 original songs and has about 40 covers to choose from during shows.
“It allows us to keep our shows fresh and our sets unique,” Mann added.
