New band hits the Culpeper music scene
Even after the demise of the Culpeper Rock Academy, new bands are still emerging in Culpeper.
Check out “Mandorla” at two free shows this weekend in Culpeper and Sperryville. And if you’ve stopped by Starbucks on a Friday night in the last couple of months, you’ve heard one-third of Mandorla.
Guitarist Aubrey Driggers leads the trio that also includes John Yuan on the keyboard and the Star-Exponent’s very own drummer, Nate Delesline III.
Mandorla, which Driggers said means “the tension between heaven and Earth,” will play tonight at the Mountain Run Bowling Center (825-2695) from 9 to 12
p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 12 p.m. at Rae’s Place in Sperryville.
In addition to a few holiday tunes, Mandorla plays a mix of jazz, rock, folk, reggae, funk and pop — made up of both popular covers and heartfelt originals.
“We like to play in between each style and bring our own interpretation to each song,” Driggers said.
