Talk radio host Don Imus has been diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer, he said today on his syndicated show.

In stage 2, cancer is more advanced than stage 1 but hasn’t spread outside the prostate, according to the National Cancer Institute Web site.

Imus, 68, hosted a morning talk show for almost 30 years before he was fired by CBS Corp. in April 2007 for racially charged remarks about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team.

He was hired by Citadel Broadcasting Corp. in December 2007 to host a syndicated program.
