He may look like a young Kurt Cobain of Nirvana fame with his long blond locks hovering over his shoulders, but instead of grungy heavy metal, Eli Cook surprisingly belts out angsty blues vocals.

The Nelson County resident will perform solo at the Hazel River Pub this Saturday starting around 9:30 p.m.

Influenced by Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Mississippi John Hurt, Cook describes his sound as “Delta bluesy blues.”

His summer lineup is pretty full with dates almost every weekend through September. After playing the Pub on Saturday, Cook heads to Washington, D.C. to play at the Madam’s Organ Blues Bar on May 8.

Cook has several dates in Charlottesville, Scottsville, Wintergreen and at the Blues Dancing Festival in Washington, D.C., on July 17 and 18.

He’s also performed at a number of summer concerts in Culpeper last year including Third Thursdays.
