In the early 1700s Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood encouraged immigration to Virginia by advertising in Germany for miners to move to Virginia to establish a mining industry in the colony, according to Wikipedia. The result was the Germanna Colony and the pretext for the name of Germanna Community College.
Today we advertise for a different kind of mining located near the original Germanna Colony. We advertise for those that would mine for intellectual, financial, and social improvement. October and November are full of opportunities for such mining for improvement.
On Oct. 31 the Young Professional Group of the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the first “Voluntour” at Germanna’s Daniel Technology Center from 1 to 4 p.m. Non-profit Groups from our Community will have booths set up for the general public to inquire and connect with those programs that are of interest to them. The goal is to connect passionate interest with the need of the organizations. If you have a particular talent that can be of benefit to a non-profit, then this is a great way to meet them and understand how you can be of service.
Winston Churchill put it so well — “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Check out the “Voluntour” on Oct. 31.
On Nov. 5, The Culpeper Chamber of Commerce will have its 95th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Kitchen Gourmet will serve an elegant meal again this year, living up to last year and more. The silent auction is always a treasure chest full of great deals. The committees have been very busy identifying the award winners this year. In addition to the prestigious LB Henretty Award, The Chairman’s Award, the Small Business Person of the Year, The Most Improved Business Location, and the Young Professional of the Year, we will offer the Non-Profit Organization of the Year for the first time. We recognize the importance of excellence in business and these recipients are very deserving leaders in our vibrant business community.
On Nov. 10 the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will present a seminar on “Business Sales Growth.” Bring your miner equipment and get ready to dig into a wealth of opportunity here. Some examples of the topics are: learn how to grow your sales, learn research methods to open new markets, learn to match your business to customer needs, learn how to target your market, connecting to private and federal markets, selling to the Federal Government, selling to the Commonwealth, and eVA registration and SWAM certification. Plan ahead and take the time to mine for profits at this well-timed seminar.
Finally, On Nov. 12, there is a career expo for businesses and Culpeper County High School juniors and seniors to meet and discuss career opportunities. Registration for businesses to participate may be done on the Chamber of Commerce website by Oct. 23.
The weeks ahead are just plain rich with opportunities to find golden possibilities. For more information go to CulpeperChamber.com. today.
