What do Pierce Brosnan, Red Ferraris, and the Culpeper Business Community have in common? Monte Carlo!
Of course, Pierce Brosnan appeared in a red Ferrari in the James Bond movie “Golden Eye” as he pulled into a Monte Carlo casino. As for the Culpeper Business Community, many will be appearing (perhaps in a red Ferrari) at the Culpeper version of the famous Monte Carlo Casino. However, this event will be held at the Germanna’s Daniel Technology Center here in Culpeper’s technology corridor. These high rollers will be raising scholarship funds for the Germanna Community College Educational Foundation.
The Monte Carlo, which lies in the French Riviera on the Mediterranean Sea, has nothing on our Monte Carlo Casino Night at the Germanna Daniel Technology Center on Saturday. This year’s event will be the best of its 15-year history. There will be opportunities to win great prizes and celebrate the inspired work that the foundation does for the community.
As I become more aware of the strategic assets of our community, I find that the attention is always drawn to the community college. There is a sense that if a community has a community college then it is serious about supporting the business community. This is very true about Germanna’s Daniel Technology Center.
We are very fortunate to have the benefits of courses offered to enhance the education of our workforce. However, I find that our community college is ready to go above and beyond for the business community.
The administration is always out in the business community asking how they can help in developing programs that will support the profitability of our businesses through courses and workforce development. In addition, I must say that they are generous beyond their educational quest. They help our community in so many other ways.
The Germanna Community College Educational Foundation has challenged itself to provide students with financial need the ability to attend college. There are numerous and moving stories about changed lives resulting from the access to a good education at Germanna made possible by the foundation. For example, “the 40-year-old nursing student that never thought she’d be able to afford to go to college. She was forced to put her dream on hold for decades, before the Germanna program helped her through her first year of college. She proceeded to rack up a 4.0 grade-point average.
That earned her scholarships for this year. She will graduate in the spring and become a registered nurse” commented Mike Catell, Germanna Community College Foundation director of foundation and alumni relations in a recent email.
Monte Carlo represents a dream for those who would like to grow in wealth. It is a gamble when one goes to the casinos of the Riviera with long-shot odds. The Monte Carlo Casino Night is as close to a sure thing as you will find. The students win, the businesses win, and the community wins.
