Help us celebrate National Small Business Week

Winston Churchill once said “business is the sturdy horse pulling the wagon.” What a fitting phrase to begin National Small Business Week. This reminds me of the Super Bowl commercial with the Clydesdales. They are strong, well trained, and ready to serve. Best of all, in the commercials, they have personality. To me, personality is one of the most defining aspects of small business. In fact, I believe that the personality of our Culpeper businesses makes Culpeper one of the best places to do business in the world.
It is easy to take our small business owners for granted. They are unseen in their business offices early in the morning and late in the evening to deliver value to us as customers. They pay taxes that support our local government and lighten the load of our citizen tax burdens.
They provide support to the organizations that make our community stronger. We just expect that they will always be here because they are “the sturdy horse” in our community.
As one of my favorite small business owners says” I will be here as long as you (the customer) want me to be here.” We have a great opportunity to deliver the message to our small business this week — we want you here!
Take a moment and say thank you to your favorite small business owners. Thank you to the residential realtors for your tenacious work ethic, delivering value to us as customers — we know that you work long and persistent hours. Thank you to our local builders — we know that you are the best — the market will turn around.
Thank you to the automobile businesses for being here – we know that we can count on you when we need service. Thank you to the retailers that stock their shelves with goods that we find irresistible — we love shopping in your stores. Thank you to the service businesses — for investing your time and talent to make our lives a bit easier and our future a bit brighter. Thank you to the farmers — your agribusiness talent is vital to our community.
Small Business is founded in the entrepreneurial spirit, undaunted by economic conditions. Our society treasures freedom as a core value. That desire for freedom is a driving motivation for our small business owners to create and deliver the products and services that we value. Our small business owners demonstrate our pioneer heritage as they build on the freedom to take risk with the hope of reward. Small Business makes America great. Supporting our local business is the best way to say thank you.
From the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce – Thank you to the Small Businesses in our Community.
