Free timeless cinema continues this month on Mount Pony with a selection of silent films, concert movies, a French flick, an E.M. Forster classic, old animation and the Marx Brothers.
September’s newly released schedule for the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater also includes a redo of Buster Keaton’s “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” from 1928. The silent comedy was originally scheduled to screen in July, but was canceled due to a power outage. It shows Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. with live accompaniment by house musician Andrew Simpson. Here’s hoping the lights stay on.
Music from the ’50s and ’60s rocks the theater Sept. 19 with a pair of rock ‘n’ roll shows, including “Let the Good Times Roll” (Columbia, 1973) at 2 p.m. It stars the likes of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Fats Domino, all together again for a 20-year reunion.
At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19, a Saturday, it’s “The Big T.N.T. Show” (American International, 1966), a rock spectacular with the top American and British invasion groups of the ’60s. They would include: Ray Charles, The Byrds, Ike and Tina, James Brown, The Ronnettes and more.
The Packard Campus Theater on Mount Pony will be closed this weekend in observance of Labor Day. Movies screen Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
