Hundreds of Ford Model A cars will roll into the Piedmont Sept. 20 to 23 for a grand time of driving, car talk, sightseeing and history.
The Mount Vernon Region Model A Restorer’s Club is hosting the “National Tour” that will bring about 250 of the restored cars to the area.
Though based in Charlottesville, club members will venture into Orange, Culpeper and Rappahannock counties as well, so be on the look out.
Sept. 23, starting at 9:30 a.m., the classic American autos will visit the front lawn of James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange.
The club also plans to drive Skyline Drive and members are encouraged to visit other notable area sites like The Exchange Hotel in Gordonsville, Belmont Farms in Culpeper and the Wilderness Civil War battlefields in Orange and Spotsylvania.
The Ford Model A is considered the second huge success, after the Model T, of the Ford Motor Co.
The Model A was first produced Oct. 20, 1927, but was not sold until Dec. 2. When production ended in 1932, there were 4.8 million Model A cars, in many styles, on the road.
