Sumerduck Ruritan Club hosts a community picnic Oct. 17

The Sumerduck Ruritan Club is sponsoring a community picnic Saturday,  Oct. 17.

This is an annual event that the club sponsors to promote community fellowship and goodwill. The Sumerduck Ruritan Club has been serving the local community for over 50 years. The Ruritan’s purpose is to create a better understanding among people and through volunteer community service, make America’s communities better places in which to live and work. The slogan of Ruritan is “Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service.”

Club membership represents a cross-section of the community in which the club serves, and is not restrictive with regard to occupation, social position, or any other specific criteria. During these tough economic times we feel more than ever community fellowship and support is needed.

The picnic will have games like volleyball, horseshoes and similar group games. There also will be games for younger children and other non-athletic events.

We will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. We are asking that those that attend bring a covered dish or desert to share. We also plan on inviting other community service organizations to provide information of their services to the community.

Local pickin’ party bands have donated their time and talents to provide musical entrainment. We would welcome you to have information about business or organization or anything to hand out to the adults and children at the event. We will be having some games and providing food and soft drinks and would invite you to enjoy these events also. There are plans to make this event an enjoyable and memorable event for all.

We are writing to you to ask for your support in making this Community Picnic a success. Your support can take any form that you wish.

We plan on having drawings for door prizes with the donations we get from supporters like you. Not only are door prizes are needed but donations the food, and drinks to be served. Any donation will be extremely welcome, nothing is to small that will help make this community event a success.

A program will be printed thanking your for support and to let the community know your support.
