The Jenkins: mother and son, still working together

Collis Jenkins III, proprietor of Baby Jim’s Snack Bar on North Main Street, was just 2-years-old when this photo with mom was taken at home.

“My parents were married 15 years before I came along,” said Jenkins of his dad, Collis Jr., a.k.a. Baby Jim, and mom Pauline.
He is their only child.

Today, Collis III is 40 and still working alongside mom at Baby Jim’s. He also raises beef cows with his dad, now retired from serving up burgers, out on a farm near Norman.

Sheer volume allows Baby Jim’s to keep its prices reasonable, Jenkins said. And it’s the people of Culpeper that keep the place successful after 61 years.—by Allison Brophy Champion
