In 1895, Thomas W. Hendrick (left) became principal of Culpeper Graded School. He also served as superintendent of the county’s public school system from 1917 to 1941. In contrast, Acting Superintendent Larry Carter (right) has been on the job for two months, appointed July 1 to replace David Cox. Carter had been the executive director of administrative services since fall 2004. Before that, he served as principal of Culpeper County and Madison County high schools. He began teaching in 1969.
