Blue Ridge Community College has new president

RICHMOND — John Downey has been named president of Blue Ridge Community College.
  Virginia Community College System chancellor Glenn DuBois said Monday that Downey’s appointment is effect Aug. 3.
  Downey currently is the school’s vice president for instruction and student services. The Harrisonburg resident replaces Jim Perkins, who is retiring after 20 years.
  Downey joined the college’s staff in 1992 as a disability services coordinator and academic counselor. He came to Blue Ridge from Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, where he served as director of student activities.
