Montgomery, Fairfax schools look for places to cut
Published: July 6, 2009
WASHINGTON — The Washington area’s two largest school systems have just finished a bruising budget season and are already preparing for an even tougher fight over next year’s finances.
Teaching positions, pay raises and class size will again be on the line in Montgomery and Fairfax counties. With many cost-cutting measures already taken, it will probably be even harder to find ways to save.
In both counties, enrollment and health care costs have been rising, while tax revenue has been falling.
