Backup reported on I-66

CULPEPER – Motorists traveling west on Interstate 66 toward Front Royal should expect significant delays in western Fauquier County due to a crash at milepost 20, about two miles east of the Markham exit.

At this hour the left lane is open but traffic is reported backed up 3 ½ miles. The Virginia State Police are on the scene investigating the crash and it is not known at this time how long the left lane will remain closed.

A second crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-66 near Delaplane has closed one eastbound lane. That crash is also under investigation and may affect eastbound traffic for some time.
