Two people were flown to area hospitals after a two-vehicle accident on Bus. 29 north of the town of Culpeper Thursday morning.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler said the accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. just north of the Route 666 intersection.
Tyler said a preliminary investigation shows that 21-year-old Ashley M. Jones of Bealeton was driving a 2000 Chevrolet minivan northbound on Bus. 29 when she crossed the center line. Her van struck a southbound 2001 GMC pickup truck driven by 36-year-old David Cline of Fredericksburg. Both vehicles left the roadway, coming to rest off the right shoulder.
Debris was scattered around the crash scene as about six rescue workers used hydraulic tools to remove the woman from the van.
Two medical evacuation helicopters were called to the scene, landing in a nearby parking lot around 7:45 a.m. Tyler said Cline was flown to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg and Jones was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital. He said the nature of their injuries was not immediately known.
The accident forced police to close traffic on the busy two-lane road in both directions for about two hours.
