An investigation into a car wreck Saturday on Eleys Ford Road in Culpeper led to drug and DWI charges for an 18-year-old Richardsville man.

Eric S. Giles was charged with possessing a controlled substance, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving without a license and driving while intoxicated.

According to Corey Byers, a spokeswoman for the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, Dep. Greta Wyant responded to a wreck about 11:24 p.m. and arrested Giles for driving under the influence.

Wyant also found a bottle of pills in Giles’ jacket prescribed to one of his relatives.

The drug was later identified as Alprazolam, a schedule IV narcotic used to treat moderate to severe anxiety disorders and panic attacks.

Based on the quantity prescribed on the bottle, Wyant determined that two-thirds of the pills were missing from the container.

Giles reportedly had not given the prescription to his relative because he said he hadn’t seen her.

The pills were returned to Giles’ relative. He was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Culpeper County General District Court on Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m.

I must agree with parent-thatcare. When is enough enough? Everytime i turn around my doorstep is graced with this young mans picture, yet obviously no action has been taken against him. He has shown time and time again that he is not concerned for the residents in this area! Defacing personal property, having someone elses prescription-probably while they are sitting at home in need, and instead he is joyriding DRUNK! and swallowing down these meds! He is a danger and a risk to our community, our families, our children, not to mention himself! Instead of a ditch, tree or mailbox the next time could be one of us, and then what happens?? Like “parent” said: everyone will cry the blues… Why not do something NOW! BEFORE he takes an innocent life due to his reckless and disgusting behavior! Cases like this may make for good news but surely they put our court system to shame… And an “unsecured” bond??? This boy is OBVIOUSLY a risk… SECURE HIM! In the downtown jail-BEFORE ITS TO LATE!!!

You know this young man is known for trouble every time you turn around he is in trouble for all short of things from eluding police to vandalism and drugs an alcohol is the main factor in his arrest. If I recall he is on probation for vandalism to mail boxes in the Richardsville area. He is always driving with no listens, driving while intoxicated boosted with all kinds of drugs and the law does nothing. As a juvenile he is known for trouble, what is it going to take for the law to lock him up for at least six months to a year??? Him killing someone??? An when that happens everyone will cry the blues.  I live off of Eleys Ford Rd it is a winding Rd and dangerous Road with his record I hope he doesn’t hurt someone in this area or any other area…
