Culpeper area under severe thunderstorm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for north central Culpeper County, central Fauquier County and central Rappahannock County through this afternoon.

At 2:34 p.m., the weather service reported the storm was near Sperryville and moving east at 20 mph.

Affected locations include Five Forks, Woodville, Rock Mills, Castleton, Viewtown and Amiss-ville. Penny-sized hail and wind gusts to 60 mph can be expected in the storm area.

Tonight, a slight chance of shower and patchy fog are forecast with lows around 58. On Friday, the chance of rain continues. Mostly cloudy skies are expected with a high of 81. On Saturday, a chance of rain and thunderstorms continue. Highs near 77 are expected with a 50 percent chance of rain and mostly cloudy skies.
