Culpeper Dems meet Thursday to reorganize

The Culpeper County Democratic Committee meets Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Depot for a “reorganization caucus.“

Committee chairwoman Anita Harkte told the Star-Exponent last month that she would resign from the post at the end of this year. Hartke, a real estate agent from Amissville, said she was stepping down to focus on work and her new political consulting firm, Hartke Consulting, LLC.

A congressional candidate in 2008, Hartke ran against incumbent Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Richmond. She earned some 138,000 votes in the race against Cantor, minority whip in the U.S. House — the most of any opponent of the five-term congressman.

Following the reorganization portion of the meeting Thursday, there will be a business meeting at which officers for 2010-2011 will be elected or a date set for the election. The night will conclude with a holiday social.
