Culpeper Habitat to host annual meeting Saturday
It’s been a few years since Culpeper Habitat for Humanity built a house, but the group is still organized and ready to do more good work.
Now, it needs a family with which to partner.
Saturday morning from 9 to 11, Culpeper Habitat will host its annual meeting in the Culpeper Presbyterian fellowship hall on South Main Street.
Habitat President Jeff Montag said the purpose of the meeting is to reconnect with volunteers and celebrate 10 years of building houses in Culpeper.
The group also plans to launch a refurbish project, “A Brush with Kindness,” in which it will do home repairs for low-income and elderly residents.
Next year, Culpeper Habitat hopes to start work on its fifth house. It will be located in the Griffinsburg area next to the one built three years ago on land donated by Greg and Liz Yates.
The home will be larger than the typical Habitat house, Montag said, and situated on 3 acres. As such, the organization is working to establish a minimum-income criteria for family selection.

Montag invited past Habitat volunteers and those interested in joining the cause to attend Saturday’s meeting to learn more about what’s to come.
“Whatever your skills or talents are, we can find a job for you in our mission to help eliminate substandard housing,” he said. “There is much more to Habitat for Humanity than just pounding nails and building homes.”
