Fauquier crash kills Remington man

A Remington man died Friday after an early-morning wreck in Fauquier County.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler said John Franklin Matthews, 20, was westbound on Route 651 just east of Route 621 when his 1990 four-door Volvo ran off the right side of the road.

“He overcorrected and went off the road to the left, striking some trees,” Tyler said. “Mr. Matthews died at the scene.”

Tyler said Matthews was not wearing a seat belt. No other injures were reported.

Tyler said officials were called to the scene at about 5:30 a.m. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, and Tyler said it is under investigation by Trooper K. Corbett.
