Fire claims man in Orange County

A New Years Eve fire claimed the life of a man in Orange County, police said this morning.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler said Orange County authorities were called to a mobile home on Lakeview Lane around 8:27 p.m. on Wednesday. Fire officials and a trooper were dispatched to the scene, which is about six miles east of the town of Orange.

“After they extinguished the fire, we found a male victim inside the trailer,” Tyler said.

Tyler declined to identify the victim pending family notification and said it was not immediately clear when that information would be available. It was also not known if the victim lived in the mobile home. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is also not yet clear and Tyler said the incident remains under investigation by the State Police.
