An unidentified police officer directs traffic Thursday after two pickup trucks collided on Route 3 at Industry Drive.
A Wednesday afternoon accident in Rixeyville and a Thursday afternoon wreck in Culpeper sent four women to the hospital.
Wednesday’s accident occurred around 4:20 p.m., said Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler.
He said Nitosha Elain Silver, 19, of Amissville, who was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt, was southbound on Route 229 about a half mile south of Route 633. when her car struck a 1990 Toyota being driven by Angel David Contreras-Telon, 33, of Culpeper. Tyler said the other driver had stopped to allow a third vehicle to turn into a driveway.
Silver and a 17-year-old female passenger were taken to Fauquier Hospital, while the driver of the Toyota was not injured said Tyler. He said Trooper S.J. Riddle investigated and cited Silver for reckless driving.
In Thursday afternoon’s accident, two more women were hospitalized after their pickup trucks collided on Route 3 at Industry Drive around 1:55 p.m.
Tyler said the driver of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, Joyce Ann Smoot, 48, was turning onto Route 3 and pulled into the path of an eastbound 2004 Ford Ranger being driven by Joleen Garringer, 40.
Garringer is a Culpeper County Animal Control employee and the Ford is leased by the department, Tyler said. Both were taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Tyler said no animals were in Garringer’s vehicle during the accident and that Trooper K.B. Highland cited Smoot for failure to yield the right of way. None of the injures sustained in either accident were considered life-threatening, Tyler said.
