A worker at Germanna Community College was injured Thursday while cutting down a tree at the Locust Grove campus, according to a GCC spokesman.

Jeff Yowell, of the college’s facilities department, sustained broken ribs and vertebrae but was talking and able to move his limbs, according to Mike Zitz.

Yowell, a resident of Madison County, was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital before being transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Zitz said Yowell was in intensive care.
