Those looking for a good scare this weekend are going to have to wait a few extra days before venturing into Nate Jasper's Haunted Woods.

Due to the recent rain, Jasper said it's too wet for scores of people to be trudging through. However his famous woods will be open Wednesday (Halloween night), Friday Nov. 2 and Saturday Nov. 3.

This is Jasper's 17th year of hosting the Halloween tradition.

"I enjoy doing it," he said. "I imagine I have to do it now or they'll run me out of town."

Without giving too much away, the theme for this year's woods is a "Haunted Mine."

Just past the coffin, a skull guards the entrance to Jasper's spooky maze. The dark and curvy path yields surprises behind every twist and turn that is sure to frighten even the woods' creators.

"Many, many times I've been scared in here - just walking around," Jasper said. "It's a different world at nighttime."

Jasper said if it scares him, he knows it will scare the thousands of people who will come to the three-night event. In past years, nearly 5,000 people have attended.

"We try to make it a safe place for the entire family. It brings the family together, so much that the kids need to sleep with their parents for a few weeks," he said laughing. "It really brings the family together."
