Holiday classics light up the screen this weekend on Mount Pony before the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater dims down for a holiday break.

Thursday night at 7:30 it’s Humphrey Bogart in color in “We’re No Angels” (Paramount, 1955). Bogie plays a Devil’s Island convict who escapes with a couple of buddies around Christmas. They take up with a nice family in a French coastal town, intending to rob them until experiencing a change of heart.

Friday night, same time, Bette Davis stars in “The Man Who Came to Dinner” (Warner Bros., 1942), a comedy about a sour theater critic (Monty Woolley) who takes a fall before taking over.

As expected, reservations are completely full for Saturday’s special 2 p.m. matinee of the Christmas classic of all Christmas classics, “It’s a Wonderful Life” (RKO, 1946). Folks that don’t have reservations can take a chance on stand-by tickets the day of; show up early in the theater lobby.

Make reservations to the weekend’s available shows at (540) 827-1079 ext. 79994. As always, admission is free.

The Packard Campus Theater will be closed the next two weekends for Christmas and New Year’s before reopening January 7 with a double feature.

A word about last Thursday’s screening of “Joy of Living” - delightful! Joy concentrate, this Douglas Fairbanks Jr. flick is an excellent choice for family viewing this Christmas season and proof that persistence reaps reward. Irene Dunn is absolutely luminous as the Broadway star for who he vies. She sings with the sweetest voice that will leave even more of an impression than her glittering wardrobe.
