A local non-profit community organization is prepared to celebrate the next stage of its proposed new facility.

Hospice of the Rapidan leaders will say thanks publicly to the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors and landowners Robert and Betty Niles on Dec. 3 at the Remington Lions Club’s Hall.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The Fauquier BOS approved a special exceptions permit on Nov. 12, allowing the Hospice of the Rapidan to build a new 10-bed hospice house on Royalls Mills Road in Sumerduck.

Hospice of the Rapidan board member Robert and Betty Niles donated 14.6 acres of the couple’s 350-acre property in Fauquier.

The new facility will feature spacious bedrooms, a dining area, community gathering area, play area, gardens, and commercial kitchen on 20,000 square feet.

The facility will serve residents living in the Piedmont community: Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Fauquier and Rappahannock.

The celebration is for the Hospice of the Rapidan family: Board members, staff and volunteers.

Hospice administrators estimate the cost of the building around $4 million.
