Lake Pelham levels keep dropping

Lake Pelham, the town's main source of drinking water, is inching ever lower as there's been no rain in Culpeper this month, and very little last month.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the lake was about 31-inches below normal; 36-inches below is the trigger for mandatory water restrictions.

The town residents are currently under voluntarily water restrictions for recreational use.

Harry Hughes, town director of environmental services, says it could be as soon as early November that the town prohibits grass watering, car washing and other recreational uses of water.

According to data provided by Weather Central Inc., the next chance of rain could be Friday. Temperatures will cool down slightly into the upper 60s.
