December’s featured cinema in the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater will begin with a quirky comedy set in the Big Apple about a sticky love affair, a la Woody Allen — 30 years ago.
“Manhattan,” showing Dec. 3, is rated R.

Next month on Mount Pony will end with one of the greatest Christmas movies ever made starring Jimmy Stewart, of course.

“It’s A Wonderful Life,” showing Dec. 19, is for all ages.

Both selections are in the National Film Registry which means they’re worth saving.

In addition, in December, the LOC theater celebrates the 100th birthday of the super handsome, thrice-married and talented actor Douglas Fairbanks Jr. (1909-2007) with a duo of his films. They are: “The Prisoner of Zenda” on Dec. 4 and “Joy of Living” on Dec. 10.

The month’s other highlights will consist of a Walt Disney Shorts Festival matinee on Dec. 5 and Humphrey Bogart in “We’re No Angels” Dec. 17.

All movies are free and show at 7:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.

The theater will be closed the week of Christmas.

Make reservations Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. up to one week in advance at (540) 827-1079 ext. 79994. The Packard Campus Theater is located at 19053 Mount Pony Road, a few miles east of town off of U.S. 522
