The Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District this month recognized a local farmer and Eastern View High School teacher.

Terry Ingram, owner of Threkeld Farm, and EVHS science teacher Leslie Jones were recognized Nov. 4 at the annual event, which honors residents who have demonstrated leadership in the stewardship of local soil and water resources.

Ingram was awarded the Culpeper County Bay Friendly Farm Award. The farm is a grass-based organic 250-acre dairy that includes 170 registered jersey cows, four miles of pipeline, two stream crossings and 4,000 feet of travel lanes. The farm has been placed in a conservation easement. Ingram took over operations in 2006 and began milking the following year. The farm also grows and sells organic corn and plants crop cover each fall.

Jones received the Educator of the Year Award. She teaches advanced placement biology, anatomy and physiology and chemistry.

Jones was involved in the planning and construction of Eastern View, which is a certified environmentally friendly building. She’s also in charge of the school’s recycling program.

The Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District promotes the stewardship of soil and water and the conservation of natural resources through educating and technical assistance. The organization manages and protects land and water resources in Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties.

Culpeper County’s Conservation District Board of Directors are John Boldridge, Laura Campbell and Thomas O’Halloran. Jocelyn Lampert is associate director.
