A Culpeper man faces two misdemeanor charges after the Culpeper Police Department said he assaulted a juvenile and waved a firearm last Wednesday.

Leroy Johnson, 55, of the 1300 block of Old Fredericksburg Road, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and brandishing a firearm.

Lt. Chris Settle said Johnson was on West Edmondson Street around 5:20 p.m. when he allegedly committed the assault.

Johnson reportedly went outside and grabbed a handgun from his vehicle and threatened the child after the assault.
By the time officers arrived, Johnson had left the scene, according to Settle.

Later that day, police caught up with Johnson at his Old Fredericksburg Road address and also located a 9mm handgun.
He was released on a $2,500 bond and is due in Culpeper Juvenile Domestic Relations Court Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
