Moderator looks to public for questions
Published: October 12, 2007
The public has heard from candidates for elected office in Culpeper during the last several months talking about various issues - either at a resident's front door or at a public forum.
Now, it's time for the candidates to take questions directly from constituents.
Independent moderator Tom Seay, a member of the Lignum Ruritan Club, invites the community to submit questions to him which he will in turn ask the candidates during a three-day forum later this month.
"I want to make it very clear to the public that we are asking for their questions and the source will not be publicized or identified," Seay wrote, via e-mail Monday.
The questions will be asked of candidates during a public debate held at Culpeper County High School starting at 7:30 p.m.
School Board candidates are up first on Oct. 23 followed by candidates for the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 24.
On the last day, Oct. 25, constitutional office hopefuls will receive their questions.
A number of candidates from various races will be in attendance.
Seay explained that the only screening process will be to prevent duplication and/or personal attack questions.
Every question will be included and an independent panel will ask all inquires, time permitting.
According to Seay, all questions are kept confidential until the debate.
"None of the candidates will be aware of the questions in advance," he said.
If you are unable to submit questions in advance, Seay said, written questions are welcome during the evening of the forums.
