Mount Pony Theater: ‘Don’t Bother’ bumps ‘Pickup’

Film quality issues have caused a last-minute change in the free movie playing tonight in the Mount Pony Theater.

“Don’t Bother to Knock,“ the 1952 classic with Marilyn Monroe and the late Richard Widmark replaces the previously scheduled “Pick Up on South Street,“ a 1953 movie, also starring Widmark.

There are plenty of reservations still available for “Don’t Bother,“ which shows tonight at 7 p.m.

Tonight’s new screening still goes along with the theater’s month-long tribute to stars who passed in 2008. Widmark died March 26 at his home in Connecticut at the age of 93 after a long illness.

See the dramatic side of Ms. Marilyn in “Don’t Bother to Knock” as she plays Nell Forbes, a suicidal young woman recently released from a mental institution.

After she takes a babysitting job at a posh hotel, Nell meets Widmark’s character, who tries to make time with the bombshell after getting dumped by his girlfriend, played by Anne Bancroft.
