Planning Commission defers three items

Even development takes a break for the holidays, meaning light work for the Town Planning Commission this month.

Two site plan reviews and one rezoning request planned for Tuesday's meeting have been deferred until later dates, at the applicants' request. The only agenda item remaining, then, is an update from town staff on minor site plan activity.

Here's what the Planning Commission would have considered:
n Public hearing on the request from Richard Dwyer, property owner, to rezone 23 pieces of land from residential 1, 2 and 3 to residential 2 and commercial 3. The proposed Center at Bald's Run would sit on about 38 acres west of downtown in between Sperryville Pike and Old Rixeyville Road - across from Yowell Meadow Park and behind Culpeper Christian School. The planned development - so named for the stream that traverses the property - would include 240 apartment-like units, 72 townhouses and 200,000 square feet of commercial space. This application has been on hold since March; Dwyer most recently requested that it be deferred until the April meeting next year to allow more time to address road issues.

- Site plan review of request from Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications to construct a turn lane adjacent to the SWIFT property on McDevitt Drive. Item deferred until the January 15 meeting.

- Site plan review of request from Culpeper Regional Hospital to relocate its MRI facility from the temporary trailer to a permanent, 5,500-square-foot addition on the south side of the hospital, accessible via Laurel Street. Item deferred until the January 15 meeting.
