Powell Wellness Center grand opening
Published: October 13, 2007
The highly anticipated Powell Wellness Center officially opens for business Monday.
That's why organizers planned a two-hour grand opening beginning at 7 p.m. to celebrate the success of the "Here's to your health" capital campaign. That objective netted the funding for the $11 million structure.
In addition to that, Drs. William and Elizabeth Powell - for which the facility is named after - donated a significant amount of money to get this project started, according to Culpeper Regional Hospital officials.
The 38,000-square-foot facility across from the Meadowbrook Shopping Center, at the corner of Golf Drive and U.S. 29 South, will serve two purposes.
First, the rehabilitative services portion will offer physical, occupational and speech therapists trained to help patients improve body movement, flexibility and strength, increase daily living skills and restore communication abilities, according to Director of Culpeper Rehabilitative Center Temple Coates.
These services, which include bone density and mammography testing, were originally available at the Culpeper Rehabilitative Center, on South Main Street, however recently moved into the Powell Wellness Center.
Second, a fitness facility includes more than 75 pieces of cardio and strength equipment, group exercise classes, an aquatic facility featuring a Therapeutic Unique Rehabilitative Two-Temperature Lap and Exercise pool, full locker room amenities, café, weight management programs for all ages, an indoor two-lane track and much more.
Director Sandy Boone will supervise this area.
