School Board to decide whether to let students go to Bermuda
Published: September 14, 2009
A group of Eastern View High School drama and choir students may learn tonight whether or not they’ll be able to take a cruise to Bermuda next spring.
The Culpeper County School Board will vote on the topic during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the County Administration Building, 302 N. Main St.
The five-day voluntary trip will cost students $719 each and will include all port changes, taxes, music festival with clinics, all meals, accommodations and activities on the boat.
The School Board will not have to pay for any expenses. It’s up to the participant to pay for his or her own trip.
The performance cruise is scheduled to depart from Norfolk on May 15, 2010 and return to the states on May 20, 2010.
“The five-day trip will give students the opportunity to experience career paths in music and drama on the high seas,” wrote Tiffany Richtarski, EVHS choral director; Jeff Walker, EVHS drama director and EVHS Principal Roger Mello in a letter to the School Board and CCPS Superintendent Bobbi Johnson.
» The board will also consider sending a board member to the Virginia School Board Association annual conference in Williamsburg Nov. 18-20.
» The board will consider sending a board member to the National School Boards Association annual conference in Chicago April 10-13, 2010.
» The board will review the first reading of two policies: Driver education and the admission of foreign exchange students
» The board will consider modifying the SHW Group’s renovation contract to generate the bid package for the central plant replacement
In closed session, the board will discuss a contract regarding “performance, demands and legal disputes” with another party.
“Discussion of these matters in an open session may adversely affect the negotiating or litigating position of the School Board regarding the contract claims,” the wording on tonight’s agenda states.
