Water levels rise in Culpeper area
The combination of melting snow and Friday’s rain produced high water in some areas of Culpeper Saturday.
According to the Culpeper County Public Safety Communications Center, Cedar Mountain Drive, Kettle Club, Winston, Carrico Mills and Robinson River roads were covered with water.
By 2:45 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Rappahannock River at Remington until Saturday evening. If flooded, the water would affect Culpeper and Fauquier counties.
Robinson River, Kettle Club roads and Cedar Mountain Drive are located off U.S. 15 in the southwestern part of the county.
Winston Road is off of U.S. 522 near Mitchells.
Carrico Mills is the winding road that links Route 3 to Brandy Station in the eastern part of the county.
Dispatcher Renee Ford said Robinson River Road was the only road closed due to the high water.
In town, water covered the asphalt walking path and most of the grass at Yowell Meadow Park.
The next chance for more precipitation is Wednesday. The National Weather Service predicts a 40 percent chance of snow and/or a wintry mix.
Sunday’s forecast calls for patchy fog with highs near 47.
