Culpeper Town Police charged a 46-year-old man with the burglary of a local bank Friday, three days and several phone tips after a man was caught on bank surveillance during the break-in.
Detectives charged Theodus Roosevelt Dinkins, of the 1000 block Nottingham Street, with the early Tuesday morning burglary of Carter Bank and Trust. The bank is also on Nottingham Street.
Following the release of bank surveillance photos, Lt. Chris Settle said phone tips to police and Culpeper Crime Solvers led detectives to identify Dinkins as the suspect.
The surveillance photos show the suspect wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt crouched behind a counter about 1:10 a.m. Police said the bank had been ransacked.
According to the report, a bank employee called police shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday to report the burglary. Investigators determined the suspect broke out a window, near which they found what appeared to be blood.
Town spokesman Wally Bunker said police located Dinkins about 1:30 p.m. Friday at his home, where detectives served two warrants. Police recovered boots and three sweatshirts, a DNA sample and photographed cuts on Dinkins.
Evidence collected at the bank and from the search warrants will be sent to the forensic science lab for analysis, Bunker said.
Dinkins remains in jail on $3,500 bond. He will appear in General District Court at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 14 for arraignment.
