Culpeper teen wanted for attempted murder in hospital
A Culpeper teenager wanted for attempted murder is in the intensive care unit after being ejected from his car after a police chase Friday night.
According to Virginia State Police spokesman Les Tyler, the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office issued a “be on the lookout” Friday afternoon for suspect Terrence Shipp Jr., 18, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt.
Lt. Brad Sullivan of the Culpeper County Sherriff’s Office said that Shipp was suspected of firing several shots into an occupied vehicle following a verbal altercation.
“We are still sorting out all the details, but it appears as though the suspect shot into the vehicle occupied by a male victim,” Sullivan said. “The victim knew the suspect and informed an investigator. We broadcast an alert for the vehicle.”
Trooper B.M. Taylor observed the vehicle Friday evening and attempted to stop Shipp, at which time a pursuit ensued on Route 3 toward Culpeper, Tyler said.
Shipp led authorities through three counties during the chase, but eventually Shipp drove the Chevy off the right side of the road and struck an embankment about a mile east of U.S. 522, between Mount Pony and Croftburn Farm, Tyler said.
The vehicle overturned and Shipp was ejected, Tyler said of the crash, which occurred at 6:40 p.m.
Shipp, the only person in the vehicle, was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, where he was listed in the intensive care unit Saturday.
Culpeper County Sheriff’s Major Russell Lane said Saturday that the Sheriff’s Office has a warrant in hand for attempted murder.
Sullivan said that the exact location of the attack was still being pinpointed, but investigators did process the victim’s car that was riddled with bullet holes and were able to collect evidence.

Let’s not make excuses for him. At 18 he’s hardly a snot nosed brat. He not only endangered law enforcement - he endangered everyone on the road. All for something stupid. We’ll pay his medical bills and attorney fees because people like him feed off society.

Are you insinuating that this hooligan possibly is not guilty of leading the authorities on a three-county car chase, resulting in the teen’s ultimate crashing. And then the medivac to Charlottesville?
Because I myself don’t doubt the truth to the car chase story. I don’t know if he is guilty of shooting bullets at another person or not. The issue here is that the stupid brat risked not only his life, but multiple law enforcement officer’s life in his three-county chase. I don’t know about you, but I use routes 3 and 522 all the time and I am quite glad I was not on those roads when this was going on. I do not feel our taxdollars should pay one dime of this snotty-nosed brat’s medical bills - althought that is exactly what is going to happen and it won’t be cheap.
Hmmm with the previous comment I guess the question I believe the costs are covered by the victim. Now if you are assuming the costs should be paid because they are guilty, then perhaps we should wait for the results of the trial as he is innocent until proven guilty?
This kid’s name and photo should be published and he should have to work off the cost of his lifeflight ride to UVA and all related medical care expenses.
