Town police have charged a 21-year-old Culpeper woman with domestic felony assault following an incident Sunday.

Nayeli Hernandez, of the 600 block of Holly Crest Drive, was charged Thursday following an investigation by Detective Susan Bartee. Police said Hernandez turned herself in that evening.

According to Lt. Chris Settle, officers were called to the residence about 11 p.m. Sunday on a suspicious circumstances call.

When they arrived, officers said several men standing on the front porch of the house told police that the couple living upstairs had been fighting all night. Police noticed blood on the staircase leading to the second floor.

The unidentified 23-year-old victim, whose clothes were covered in blood, had three deep lacerations to his head possibly caused by a beer bottle. He was treated and released at Culpeper Regional Hospital.

After an investigation, a felony malicious wounding warrant was issued against Hernandez, who is four months pregnant, on charges of assaulting her boyfriend.

Bond was set at $7,500. Her arraignment is set in General District Court Jan. 6 at 8:30 a.m.

It’s rather sad that domestics and other anti-social (drinking predominantly) behaviors increase dramatically during the holidays.
