Police say a Culpeper man faces a felony charge of unlawful wounding following a gang related fight Monday night on North East Street.

Alexandro Michael Kastrinos, 23, a resident of the area, is being held in jail without bond.

Sgt. Jason Deal responded to a “fight in progress” call in the 600 block of North East Street Monday night around 11:30 when he saw two men — one of them Kastrinos — fighting. Deal broke up the fight, which police say involved members of the Bloods and Crips gangs, according to a town news release.

An unidentified 18-year-old Locust Grove man fighting with Kastrinos suffered lacerations to his face and neck. Police say he was a victim in the incident and was in the area visiting friends. A brick and broken bottle were found near the Orange County man, who was transported to Culpeper Regional Hospital, treated and released.

Stories differ on what caused the fight, police say.

A woman told police that she and her ex-husband were driving on North East Street when they heard yelling. Suddenly, the driver’s side window on her Ford Explorer shattered and she was struck on the side of the head with a dumbbell.

Kastrinos told police that his brother was involved in a fight and when he went to help him, the man from Locust Grove at-tacked him, said Culpeper Police Capt. Ricky Pinksaw.

“The case is still being investigated, additional charges may be forthcoming,” Pinksaw said.

Kastrinos also alleged that the Explorer kept driving through the neighborhood and its occupants were shouting racial epi-thets, police said.

The Locust Grove man told police that he heard yelling and when he went to help the woman driving the Explorer, Kastrinos jumped him.

Kastrinos is scheduled for arraignment in general district court Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Culpeper Police Detective Richard Brooking continues to interview witnesses in an attempt to sort out the incident.

Anyone with information should contact Brooking at 540-829-5504 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Solves at 540-727-0300.

truhoo-  The reason I brought up the name and possible ethnicity was because not so very long ago, many tried to equate illegal immigration with Hispanic and gangs.  I still ask “where’s the beef”.

cs, “Americans” doesn’t get an apostrophe.  And, saying “Amen” isn’t Christian.  It’s actually worship of Amen-Ra, the Egyptian God of the Sun.

Yes, a gang is a gang.  It could be a gang of harmless dope-smokers.  It could be a street gang with greaser uniforms who sing and dance in the alleyway.  Or it could be a gang of hired mercenaries called “ARMY” or “Blackwater”, who will come and take your guns in the event of an emergency, - and tell you which FEMA camp to report to.

People on here bragging about knowing gangs, and being around gangs and wanting to somehow posture themselves as one of these tough guys - ha!  Bollocks!  It is the most petty of powers, yet your mouths froth over it.

rjma - I was responding to your comment posted at 8:47 pm “BTW- that sure doesn’t sound like a Hispanic name.  Sounds more Greek.  Are there Greek Crips?“ Why in the world would you bring their nationality up???  My point is - a gang is a gang, and it doesn’t matter what their nationality is.

Why in the world would you bring the guy’s immigration status up.  How do you know that he’s not a US citizen?

Nowhere does the article state the gang is Latino, nor Greek for that matter.  Our community does not want to see gangs of any nationality.  The same holds true with illegals in our country.  Is it too much to ask that those of any nationality who wish to enter America follow the law of the land and become legal before they benefit from our tax dollars?

Here’s what they really are, a bunch of punks!! Culpeper has never, ever, had this kind of problem until all the illegals moved in. Like it or not, that is the truth.

And yeah, the police in this town are exactly what they seem like.  Over-exaggerating, predatory ****ants.

Epi-thets?  At-tacked?  Great editing, guys.

Knuckle-dragging mouth-breather.

Beena- No one disputes that there are gangs.  The question is are they active in Culp.  I have seen no evidence in this article that they are.  A police officer saying these were two gang members, without any verifiable evidence is not enough.  BTW- that sure doesn’t sound like a Hispanic name.  Sounds more Greek.  Are there Greek Crips?
